The three casino proposals near the Kansas Turnpike were finally authorized on Monday for the county in the Sumner County Commission where one proposal is near Wellington and the other two near Mulvane.

The commission also endorsed Chisholm Creek Casino Resort, by Foxwoods Development, which had come up with an idea of a $225 million facility on the Kansas Turnpike near Mulvane. The proposed casino would include a total of 275,000 square feet, with 2,000 slot machines and 40 table games and it is estimated to create 941 jobs.

The county in addition to this has recognized a proposal by Lakes Entertainment Inc at which would sum up around $240 million and would create a 230,000-square-foot casino with 1,700 jobs. The county has nodded to a similar proposal by Lakes near the Wellington exit of the Turnpike.

One exception is that the county had rejected the proposals suggested by Prairie Sky development group, based in Topeka that would probably relocate itself to Mulvane.

When the county recognized only proposals near Wellington, the commission's vote was a reversal of the first round of casino bidding during which the state gradually looked up for the partnership with the Harrah's Entertainment for a facility near Mulvane and later collapsed as they pulled out of the deal.

According to the 2007 state law, the Sumner County became one among the several states that envisaged casino development. The state ought to select a casino to could operate in the county, but endorsement by local government becomes mandatory.

With the first level of approval and filtering of casinos done in the county level, the state level approval is yet to be complete. It is questionable if all the 3 will be approved or if there will be further narrowing and short listing of the casinos.
