The Mono Indians casino plans can possibly be destroyed by the decisions of the Stations Casinos to file for Bankruptcy. The North Fork Rancheria of Mono Indians is planning to build up a casino in the Madera County casino. The filing of bankruptcy by the Stations can probably threaten these plans for several reasons.
The Stations management had a compact with The North Fork Rancheria of Mono Indians to run a $250 million casino, which will consist of nearly 2,500 slot machines and 70 table games along with several restaurants and a hotel. This project was expected to bring in 2,500 jobs for the construction industry and nearly 1500 full-time jobs after the hotel and the casinos open.
The economic stimulus which will be provided by the casino business as per the tribal leaders would have brought in nearly 2,300 jobs in the Madera region. Those businesses would have generated nearly $45 million to $50 million via purchases from the clients.
However, the bankruptcy filed by the Stations Casino did put a check point for all these jobs. The long planned casino which is already being challenged by the State and Federal Law contradiction is seeing worse hopes after the Bankruptcy filing.
"While in bankruptcy, it is very difficult to allocate funds for speculative ventures" remarked Bill Eadington who also added that the Stations would require special permission from the bankruptcy judge to do so.
The current economic trends have turned in to be a check point for not only the Stations but also for other big names in the casino business.
Regardless, there are lots of other hurdles that must be crossed by The Mono Indians to have their casino plans bloom in to a reality.
The Tribal Chairwoman Elaine Bethel-Fink however stated that the project still has a hope if the stations would be committed to the project.
