The Senate President of Ohio has taken the whole concept of slots licensing for the state owned horse race tracks to an absolutely new direction. He has required a bidding session where in the highest bid will be winning the license. This has indeed taken the licensing process to a whole new direction.

The idea behind the bidding process is that with the competition to purchase the license being very huge, the state might probably benefit from hefty bids that might follow in the deal.

Each license will be costing a minimum of $65 million. With the minimum bid being very high, small players are likely to not dare to make the minimum bid. Only big ticket companies from the Las Vegas or the Atlantic City might be able to make it to the deal.

However, Strickland is not for the process as he feels that the money will be coming very late and he also feels that it is not a sensible approach to be trying to balance today?s monetary needs with money that will be coming months long after the bidding is over.

There are some democrats who opinion that due to lack of restriction of the slots to gambling zones, there are more than normal chances for the slots to be put up in residential zones, which is not desirable for several reasons relating to probable addiction in several families.

In several of the previous ballots votes were not in favor of slots coming up; however, a private survey revealed that a majority of them will be voting in favor of the slots.

Also, it has not yet been decided on the norms that will be applicable for the rights to transfer the licenses after the bidder has won the deal. Though Ohio is shrewd about starting up with gaming like other states, they are yet to cross over the challenges of voting.
